At some point during our lifetime, we are going to stop and ask if we are on the right path. Perhaps a relationship has broken down, and you have had to move out of your family home. Maybe you lost your job and are worried about finances. Whatever the reason, you might be feeling pretty flat and questioning the future.
The wonderful thing about life is that it is fluid. It doesn’t stand still, and it is continuously changing. Think of it like a river. Sometimes you’ll be enjoying a slow relaxing paddle. You’ll know where your oars are, and you can enjoy the scenery. The next thing you know you hit some rapids, suddenly everything changes and you drop your oars. Everything seems to be rushing past out of control, and you aren’t sure where you are heading. Times like this, you have to have faith that you will get to the other side, and it will be calmer waters.
You have a choice every day. Who do you want to be? How do you want to grow and move forward? Which direction do you want to take your life in? This choice is something you can make at any point, any day of the week, even if you feel a little hopeless or a little stuck.
The first thing to do is to make some small changes. If you don’t have a car, maybe it’s time to book some driving lessons. Taking this step will give you more confidence and open up more opportunities. Even if it just gives you the ability to head off and see your friends who moved away. You will feel more independent, and that could lead to your self-confidence increasing. You could even consider learning to ride a motorbike too!
If your relationship has ended, maybe it’s time to consider a change of location. Perhaps a move to the country if you have always lived in the city, or even heading to a big town if you realised you’ve never lived outside your village. Moving isn’t running away from your problems. It’s setting off on a new adventure. You will meet new people with a different outlook on life to yours. If you are renting, you could always move back if things don’t turn out the way you expected. You need to have the confidence in life to remember that a change doesn’t have to be permanent.
It’s always vital to take a real look at who we are, and this is part of our personal growth. Those of us who can be honest about ourselves and are willing to adapt and change will have a more fulfilling life. We’ll attract a lot more into our lives too, whether it is new relationships or exciting job opportunities.
Make a list of the pros and cons of your personality. Bear in mind that some of the pros may also be cons. Work out which parts of you, you like and which parts you might want to change. Then make small steps into becoming a better version of yourself.
