How Eco-Friendly Is Your Business?
How eco-friendly is your business?
It’s a question worth asking because there are some very good reasons why it needs to be.
You will do your bit to save the world
It’s no secret that the world is in a mess, and this is partly thanks to the businesses before you who have made terrible mistakes. Gas and coal plants have often been cited as guilty parties when it comes to the carbon emissions that have been spewed into the air. Furniture and textile businesses are often coming under fire for the damage they are doing to our rainforests. Businesses, both large and small, have been held responsible for the amounts of plastic and other toxic materials that have ended up in our landfills. And then there are companies such as Total and BP who have been held accountable for the catastrophic effects that oil leaks have caused to the world’s seas.
Could your business be guilty of some of the same? To save the world, we all need to research the ways in which we can protect the environment, and these include the following
Oil and chemical leakage can be reduced when a business utilises a diaphragm pump in their pharmaceutical or wastewater processes.
Electric vehicles and sustainable fuel options can be used by those businesses that rely on a business fleet for their operations.
Office-based businesses can become paperless through the use of cloud technologies.
And any business can reduce waste by using climate cups instead of the paper or glass alternative, or by implementing recycling programmes.
So, what could your business do? You need to do something, and not only to save the world. You see, if you do…
You will also save your business
As a business owner, you need to consider your brand image that is being conveyed to the world at large.
If you were to engage in less than eco-friendly practices within your business, consider the impact. Your employees might be less than happy, and this could both lower their morale and cause them to quit your business. You would be less likely to attract new hires from the millennial workforce, as surveys suggest they want to work for environmentally sustainable companies. You would come under fire from the local media if you were found to be damaging the environment in anyway. And you would also lose existing and potential customers, as many people today are keen to do their bit to save the world, and this means using companies with greener values.
So, think about the impact of your brand image. If you are already working with greener initiatives, then your brand image might well be a positive one. But if you are neglecting your ethical responsibilities, then it could be that your brand image is less than palatable.
Be mindful then, and follow the example of these companies that have made great efforts to green up their processes. And consider what other businesses are doing in your locale. Some of them will be your competition, so let this be another incentive for you to change your ways if you have thus far been neglectful. You might well save your business if you do, and you might also do your bit to save the world in the process.
