Is Man Of Steel Going To Live Up To Its Expectations?
Let’s face it: we all know Man Of Steel is going to be easily the best Superman film of all time. It won’t be hard to top Superman 2, especially with Watchmen director Zack Snyder at the helm! But will it be the best superhero film of all time? Because that is the title many superhero fans have branded it with.
Director of the Batman trilogy Christopher Nolan is also part of the film as a producer, and that trilogy is the current holder of the title “the best superhero movie”, known for making a much more real and relatable story, which is why I think many critics and fans really want to see this film. How can you make Superman relatable? He’s an alien from the planet Krypton. Well, apparently, one way is to give him “odd jobs” and make him an outcast in society. This is a gamble, because Man Of Steel is an origin story, so changing the origin of the character might make fans of the comics a little annoyed.
Henry Cavill stars as the man of steel, which I have to admit I’m rather exited about. Why? Because he is a British actor and because in recent film history, British actors are the best at playing superheros. For example; Christian Bale, Chris Hemsworth and Andrew Garfield. So I have no doubt that he will be brilliant in this blockbuster. I also have no doubts about Michael Shannon as General Zod. The acting in this film will be top notch, there is no question about that. The cast involved are all fantastic actors.
The only problem I think this film will have is that Warner Brothers will use it to create a plot for their most anticipated Justice League film. This will be a problem, because people have pressured Warner Brothers to put a 2015 release date on the film, and they are going to have to introduce it somehow. So it may feel like it is being forced onto the audience.
Anyway, back to the question “will it live up to its expectations”. In my opinion: no, it won’t. Because fans have set the bar so high that it will be impossible to reach. Obviously, it will be a spectacular film, most likely the best superhero film of all time. It may even gross more than The Avengers did. But it won’t live up to its expectations. I asked one fan, in his opinion, how good would Man Of Steel be? He said “if it isn’t exactly the same as the comics, I will be very disappointed“. Now Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan have already revealed they have changed the story. So that’s one expectation it hasn’t lived up to.
Man Of Steel flies into cinemas on 14th June, so only then we will get to see if it has lived up to our expectations. Personally I can’t wait for this film to come out.
