Norwich FC need to sort out Away form
After a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Swansea FC on last Saturday, Norwich’s ability to play the away games seems to be well out the window – and then some.
The defeat to Swansea marks the Canaries’ sixth consecutive defeat Away, once more calling into question Chris Hughton’s position as manager. Top flight upfront players Wes Hoolahan and Ricky Van Wolfswinkel failed to make much of an impact in threatening Swansea and the poor striking form was only matched by Bassong’s lax defence.
On more than one occasion Sebastien Bassong over-relaxed and gave Swansea opportunity to score. As Swansea made more chances, de Guzman scored twice before half time was called (30′, 38′), leaving Norwich in an all-too-similar dressing room telling off at half time.
In the second half, the third goal came from the Swans’ Routledge in the 76′ minute, sending Norwich’s fans home without a hope in hell of even a respectful loss.
John Ruddy was peppered with exposure, which is a shame for the goalkeeper’s England chances. He is currently rumoured as one of Hodgson’s reserves.
Hughton, as manager, has failed to provide the support that saw previous manager Paul Lambert move the team to the Premier League. However, since Lambert left much of the Norwich team have left too, leaving Hughton to rebuild and focus training.
The focus for Norwich appears to be too hung up on being over-defensive, but it’s time for the Canaries to start making chances. If they’re to avoid relegation, Hughton needs to give the group confidence to attack and get a goal in. It’s more risky gameplay, but at least Norwich fans will have a reason to see their team. All this holding on to the Prem by our finger tips means Norwich is suffocating and maybe the air to breathe back life into the team lies in relegation and the fight to comeback.
Norwich FC play West Brom this Saturday, 15:00 GMT Time.
