The Times they are a-changing
One day we will see how our sons are better than us, how we destroyed their world and what they’ll do to make it better.
The economic crisis gives us a new point of view in terms of perception of our reality in comparison with the rest of the world and the past ages. In western populations, we have always thought of ourselves as the tip of civilization but now we can clearly see what there was under the surface of richness and health: just greed, falsehood, and everything that gave us the notion of what we have always been: an evil, cleverer animal.
Western countries depict the duality of human kind very well. We are capable of the highest thoughts in terms of ethics, morals and technology, but using them for the wrong causes. For example: Marxism, Christianity, nuclear weapons and so on. Each of these examples have started from a good motivation and finished as the excuse for subduing, if not murdering, other human beings. The Columbus discovery of the new world has shown us how western countries always relate to what is different: we take everything from the people we consider inferior. What the establishment does not understand, is that with the lack of any sort of balance, in terms of resources distribution, we are doomed to a bad end. The huge stream of immigration from the poorest countries to the richest is due to this inequity. Religious wars, as we call them, are another good example of how we “deal” with different cultures and way of life. The foreign policy of the U.S.A or Great Britain, was a failure in lands like Afghanistan and Iraq. With the justification of the magic word Democracy these States did not help the growth of a better society, instead, they increased the number of deaths amongst civilians.
I have started this article with a provocative sentence which gives me hope for the future, for a new and more aware generation of boys and girls and now I wish to finish it with some of Dylan’s prophetic lyrics which he wrote many years ago. As far as I know he is still right:
“Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin’
Please get out of the new one
If you can’t lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin’.
