Things You Should Do Before A Workout To Get The Most Out Of It
When it comes to your fitness, your routine in the gym usually gets the credit but it shouldn’t. If you know what to do before a workout, then you will be able to understand what your body needs in order for you to get the most out of your efforts.
The workout is actually the easier part of a fitness routine, whether you run, jog, walk, or lift weights an hour of your time is not much when you think about it, and you can’t make that more important than the rest of the day. Things like sleep and nutrition matter too. Having a good pre-workout ritual will help to ensure you are fueling your efforts, recovering properly, and crushing every workout.
Let’s have a look at some the things you should do before a workout:
Getting Enough Sleep
Your fitness program actually starts with your sleep. This is where the magic happens. It not only gives you the energy that you need, ensures your well-rested for your workout, but it also eats your hunger under control, and helps you to recuperate. If you haven’t had your recommended amount of sleep (between 7 and 9 hours) then you shouldn’t be working out.
Hydration
You already know that water is great for your overall health, but it also plays a crucial role in your fitness routine. When you sweat you are losing water and therefore need to make sure you are regaining this lost water. Being hydrated is one of the keys to getting the most from your workouts. It will ensure your energy levels are where they are supposed to be. Make sure you drink plenty before and sip during and after. The amount you need may vary from person to person so make sure you listen to what your body is telling you.
Grab A Snack
If you don’t feel like having a snack pre-workout, you shouldn’t force yourself to have one. However, you shouldn’t ignore your body if it’s telling you that you need some fuel. If there is no food going in then there won’t be any energy going out. Try something like a piece of toast with almond butter. The key to your pre-workout snack is to not overindulge and fill yourself up. You don’t want to be empty, but you also don’t want to be full.
The Right Clothing And Footwear
You need to make sure you’re wearing the right clothes and footwear for the workout you’re doing. You need to be able ot run, stretch, move freely, jump and get into certain poses or positions with good mobility and flexibility. For example, if you usually wear glasses try a pair such as Nike glasses or if you are doing cycling some cycling shorts. You should also make sure you are using things such as a sports bra for good support and minimizing injury. Wearing the right trainers for activities like running can make a huge difference in your performance and will be much more comfortable.
