Twitter, Twitterfied, Twitterific!
I was asked to bring forward my opinions and thoughts on Twitter, a social networking platform that has had birds tweeting since March 2006. Twitter is better known as a real-time social networking platform from where its little ‘birds’ open the world to celebrities, introduce newly launched companies and present old companies to add a fresh taste to their outlook and reputation. To be honest though, I’ve never looked at Twitter with that perspective. If I was to compare Twitter to other social networking platforms like Facebook and Google+, I would say that Twitter has a completely different angle with things. I wouldn’t identify it to be as socially active when you’re connecting with friends / family. I am more likely to consider it as an on-the-go platform, interacting with trends rather than showing curiosity for what your friends are doing this weekend. Twitter introduces a wider scale of opportunities for an individual; you could probably say it’s a modernised edition of MySpace. It introduces a similar concept, for every individual, independent companies and newly founded companies to put their name out there. The possibilities are endless. It opens a whole new world to celebrities but more importantly it manages to successfully connect those celebrities to their fans.
This is something that no other social media platform has ever brought to the table. Who would’ve thought you would be able to follow your favourite idol, magazine, newspaper or company? It could relate to a wide range of sectors; music, TV, Politics etc. One tweet and you’re connected to the world! Now, Facebook is trying to introduce a similar concept with a subscriber’s list, but is it just as powerful? I don’t know, I’ll let you decide that one!
I truly believe Twitter is a better informatant compared to Facebook and other platforms. News and media are always at your feet, you wouldn’t need to hide under a broadsheet newspaper for the majority of your time to find out what is happening in the world, because you have Twitter! When I think of Twitter, I think of news. Plain and simple, a feed filled with updates, quotes from people that you once believed you’d never interact with, even if it’s not direct contact, it doesn’t matter because you’re still getting official information.
It’s amazing how much people are willing to put their lives out there! They want to be known, they want to be recognised, who can blame them? If you want to get your voice heard then Twitter is the right place to go to and indeed the place where everyone is going to. You can keep tweeting like there’s no tomorrow, and maybe one day, you’ll start a trend through voicing your opinions or sparking debates.
Twitter seems to be a great tool for the press. Just imagine breaking a news story that has your name on the by-line. Wouldn’t you love that?! From just 140 characters a breaking story could come out of the clouds when you least expect it. To many, people’s opinions do not matter, but there are always going to be people out there who agree with you and who think what you are saying does matter. Just like everyone else, I’m here to express myself. Let me finish this by listing the top three celebrities who have the most Twitter follows, this is according to twitaholic.com:
#3 Katy Perry (katyperry)– 29,410,198 followers
#2 Justin Bieber (justinbieber) – 30,674,036 followers
#1 Lady Gaga (Ladygaga) 31,541,537 followers
Tweet like you’re twitterfied, follow like you’re a twitterholic, you know you want too!
