WWE Superstars to Star in Flintstones Film
World Wrestling Entertainment superstars are set to be featured in an upcoming direct-to-DVD film for the classic cartoon show, The Flintstones.
The film, which is set for release in early 2015, has been confirmed to feature several popular WWE superstars, including the company’s Chairman and CEO, Vince McMahon.
John Cena and CM Punk have been confirmed to appear, with their names being revamped to fit the Flintstone’s culture. CM Punk will be known as “CM Punkrock”, John Cena will be called “John Cenastone” and Vince McMahon will be named “Vince McMagma”.
The story for the film will see Flintstones regulars Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble attend a WWE show with friends.
WWE’s own movie studio, WWE Studios, will be co-producing the film with Warner Bros. Animation.
The deal makes this WWE’s second co-production between the two studios. Previously, they announced that WWE stars will also feature in an animated Scooby Doo movie, which will be released in March 2014.
Michael Luisi, President of WWE Studios, said in a WWE press release: “WWE is family-friendly entertainment, so partnering with Warner Bros. on a Flintstones-WWE project was a natural extension of our ‘Scooby-Doo’ deal.”
“This new, animated feature allows us to showcase our brand with young fans and loyal Flintstones enthusiasts alike.”
Warner Bros’ executive VP and General Manager, Jeff Brown, also commented, saying: “Warner Bros. is thrilled to continue our partnership with WWE Studios as we begin production of the latest ‘Flintstones’ animated feature.
“Our recent production collaborations have proven successful and we have the utmost confidence that the latest tag team between the WWE Superstars and The Flintstones will deliver the same results.”
